A Letter (short poem)

Dear Mom&Dad,

I want you to teach me,

How to be happy in life,

Not how to make others happy.

I want you to remind me,

How beautifully imperfect I’m,

Not how perfect I should be in life.

I want you to remind me,

That ‘its just ok’ to be a little selfish,

And think of myself first.

I want you to remind me,

That ‘perfect round rotis’ are not the standard guideline for a happy marriage.

I want you to teach me,

How to be my own queen,

Instead of waiting for a prince charming to come.

I want you to teach me that,

My life is perfectly complete,

Even without a man in my life.

I want you to remind me,

That instead of waiting for the right man in my life,

I  should be working for my carrier.

I want you to remind me,

That motherhood is not a compulsion,

But its a choice that I can choose.

I want you to teach me,

That ‘women empowerment’ is not just a socially gossiping subject,

But its when a stronger woman uplifts other women.

I want you to remind me,

That ‘feminism’ is not just an ongoing trend,

But its when I stand up for equal rights.

Finally, I want you to remind me,

How important it is for a girl to be herself in this world.

Lovingly Yours,

An unborn female child
